Flood Protection Analysis

Do you find yourself worrying about your house or property being damaged by a flood? Let FloodZero Consulting stand as your flood protection advisor, assisting you in developing a personalized flood defense plan for your property. FloodZero can help.

We dive deeper than mere flood zone designations to look for your property’s unique flooding vulnerabilities. Whether it’s the subtle slope of your land, the proximity to rushing rivers, or potential storm surges, we leave no stone (or raindrop) unturned.

Some options FloodZero Consulting uses to analyze and protect property are:

  • Floodproofing Review: Flood protection is more than just passive defense. It’s about actively bolstering your home’s ability to withstand a flood. Our floodproofing review dissects your existing measures, from elevated foundations to flood barriers, pinpointing areas for improvement or ensuring their optimal effectiveness. Let FloodZero Consulting help you floodproof your home.
  • Flood Venting: You might be wondering; do I need flood vents? Will flood vents help protect my property? If so, where should I put flood vents? These are important questions, since strategically placed openings allow water to flow through non-habitable structures harmlessly, alleviating pressure and preventing catastrophic damage. We work with professionals to pinpoint the optimal locations for these flood vents, ensuring your structure is protected, even when submerged.
  • Elevation Certificate: Knowing your structure’s elevation is key to saving money on flood insurance. FloodZero Consulting works with licensed professionals across the country to provide elevation certificates, granting you the ability to breathe easier by knowing the elevation of your structure relative to the flood zone.

At FloodZero Consulting, we go beyond the immediate threat. We believe in empowering you to build a lasting relationship with your environment, one that respects the power of water and mitigates its potential harm. We educate you on flood-resistant landscaping, sustainable materials, and proactive mitigation strategies, ensuring your home remains a safe place to be in the storm.

Don’t let flood risks cast a shadow over your real estate journey. Take control, gain clarity, and empower your decisions with FloodZero Consulting.

Floodplain Management / Development

Are you being told that you cannot develop a piece of property or expand an existing structure because that property or structure is in a high-risk flood zone? FloodZero can help. We are Your One Stop Flood Zone Shop and we know flood zones. We have been providing floodplain management services for over fifteen years.

It is critical to have expert advice when dealing with flood zone related restrictions. We have been involved in all levels of floodplain management review, from assisting developments in meeting local regulations to overseeing community wide flood map adoptions through the FEMA flood map update process.

We have experience working with city, county, state, and federal agencies to analyze and mitigate impacts that flood zones have on the development process. This includes the ability to review and interpret state building codes, local land-use regulations, and planning regulations. We can evaluate and prepare flood zone recommendations, including both structural and nonstructural options. By addressing flood zone issues early in the development process, property owners can significantly reduce their future flooding risks while also meeting community floodplain regulations and facilitating development. Remember, property is expensive, don’t waste it!

Flood Insurance Claims

Flooding is the most common natural disaster. Flood insurance helps property owners deal with the losses associated with flood damage. Unfortunately, many flood claims are denied because the review process is based on a complicated set of guidelines and requirements. Knowing the guidelines and requirements, and how they apply to each situation, can be the difference between getting a claim approved or having it denied.

To complicate these matters, sometimes flooding comes from multiple sources at the same time. This makes the flood insurance claim even more daunting and often results in a denial of your claim because all of the necessary information explaining the flooding situation was not correctly provided.

FloodZero Consulting works with you and your insurance company to make sure they have all the correct, necessary documentation and facts to decide your flood insurance claim, based on your policy’s requirements. This ensures that you receive the maximum amount possible, as quickly as possible, allowing you to get back to normal as soon as possible. Flooding is a major headache – flood insurance shouldn’t be!

Community Rating System

The Community Rating System (“CRS”) is a voluntary program which reduces flood insurance premiums for all properties in eligible communities. However, many communities do not take advantage of the CRS because participation can be complicated and time consuming. In fact, out of over 22,000 National Flood Insurance Program communities, only about 1,500 participate in the CRS. This is a huge mistake, since participating in the CRS can save local citizens money as well as increase flooding safety and awareness.

The CRS is administered by the Insurance Services Office (“ISO”), which requires verifications every year and cycle visits every five years. The ISO awards CRS points to a community based on its activities to increase public safety, decrease flood damage, and promote environmental awareness. To determine which points to award, the ISO evaluates nineteen categories, such as public information, mapping, regulation, flood damage reduction, warning and response systems, and more.

FloodZero Consulting can help your community achieve its desired CRS rating. No job is too big or too small. We can simply provide minor consultation, or we can do all the work by developing an entire plan and processing all the paperwork.

Hazard Mitigation Grants (FEMA Grants)

FEMA grants are a great way to help you and your community prepare for and recover from a variety of natural disasters. Most FEMA funding comes through FEMA grants. Most FEMA grants are intended to reduce long-term risks to people or property.

FEMA has a variety of grants available. Some examples of available FEMA grant types include…

  • Public Assistance Grants – FEMA grants intended to get your community back on its feet as soon as possible after a presidential disaster declaration.
  • Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants – FEMA grants intended to reduce future flood disaster losses.
  • Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities Grants – FEMA grants intended to reduce the risks of future flooding disasters and natural hazards from future disasters.

FEMA grants are great for communities; however, each FEMA grant has its own set of requirements that must be met to qualify. FloodZero Consulting understands the pertinent laws, rules, and regulations relating to FEMA grants. Let FloodZero equip your community with the comprehensive knowledge required to proactively prepare for disasters before they arise. FloodZero knows how to make the most of FEMA grants so your community can go back to normal as quickly as possible. Our expertise ensures your community’s optimal readiness, enabling you to navigate potential issues seamlessly. We offer a variety of FEMA grant services with expertise and efficiency. These services include…

  • Identifying relevant FEMA grants
  • Assessing FEMA grant eligibility criteria
  • Conducting thorough FEMA grant cost-benefit analyses
  • Completing the necessary FEMA grant paperwork
  • Following up on the FEMA grant process and addressing any problems

Case Studies

Floods don’t just dominate headlines; they reshape landscapes and lives. Understanding the intricacies of flood zones isn’t just about property values or insurance – it’s about building resilient communities and preparing for an uncertain future.
